Tapping points
Tapping points are specific points on the body that are tapped with the fingertips in EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques). They correspond to the end points of meridians from traditional Chinese medicine and form the physical core of the tapping technique.
What are tapping points?
Tapping points—also known as meridian points or tapping points—are specific locations on the body that are gently stimulated with two or three fingertips during EFT tapping. They are located in easily accessible areas, primarily on the face, upper body, and hands, and correspond to selected points from the meridian system of traditional Chinese medicine.
The classic EFT tapping points
The standard EFT sequence typically includes the following points:
- Edge of the hand (karate point): Outer edge of the palm below the little finger — used for the setup phrase
- Start of the eyebrow: Inner end of the eyebrow
- Outer corner of the eye: Bone next to the outer corner of the eye
- Under the eye: On the cheekbone, directly below the pupil
- Under the nose: Between the nose and the upper lip
- Chin: Midpoint between the lower lip and the chin
- Collarbone: Below the collarbone, on the left and right
- Under the arm: Lateral ribs, roughly at the level of the bra strap
- Wrist and crown of the head: Additional points depending on the variation
You can find a detailed description with illustrations in the article on EFT tapping points. The EFT step-by-step guide shows you how to use the points in a complete sequence.
How hard should you tap?
Tapping should be gentle to moderate—noticeable, but never painful. Each point is tapped about five to seven times while the reminder phrase is spoken.
