Lunar authority

The lunar authority is the decision-making authority for all reflectors in human design - the rarest of all five types. Since reflectors have no permanently defined centers, they are oriented to the lunar cycle of 28 to 29 days as a natural decision-making rhythm. A major decision is only made at the end of a complete lunar cycle.

What is lunar authority?

Lunar authority is reserved exclusively for Reflectors—a type that is extremely rare, comprising about one percent of the population. Reflectors have no permanently defined centers in their Bodygraph; instead, they reflect their surroundings and are extremely receptive to the energy of other people and cosmic influences.

The Moon as an Inner Timekeeper

Since Reflectors lack a fixed inner anchor in the form of defined centers, the lunar transit offers reliable guidance. Over the course of a lunar cycle of approximately 28 days, the Moon passes through all 64 hexagrams of the I Ching—activating all the centers of the Bodygraph in succession. This means that a Reflector experiences a wide range of states and perspectives in a single month.

Decisions Over Time

For major life decisions, Human Design recommends that Reflectors wait out a full lunar cycle and consult with various trusted individuals during this time. By the end of the cycle, a clear, calm inner stance often emerges. Smaller everyday decisions do not need to be postponed for months—this principle applies primarily to significant turning points. Lunar authority is inextricably linked to the themes of strategy and authority and illustrates how individual decision-making processes are in Human Design.

Do reflectors really always have to wait 28 days?

This is ideal for really big decisions such as career, relationship or place of residence. In everyday life, of course, this is not possible for every little thing. The key message is: Reflectors need time and different people to talk to in order to gain clarity - spontaneous decisions under pressure are rarely beneficial for them.

What does the moon have to do with decisions?

In the Human Design System, the moon activates various energy fields through its movement through the hexagrams of the I Ching. As reflectors have no fixed definitions, they react particularly sensitively to these cosmic rhythms. The moon thus becomes an external clock that creates inner clarity over time.
