Bodygraph
The Bodygraph is the central diagram in Human Design - a graphic representation of a person's nine energy centers, 36 channels and 64 gates. It is calculated from the time, date and place of birth and combines elements from astrology, the I Ching, the Kabbalah and the chakra system. The bodygraph is considered an individual energy expression and guide for strategy and decision-making.
What is the Bodygraph?
The Bodygraph is the visual centerpiece of the Human Design System. It is an individual energy chart calculated based on your date, time, and place of birth, combining insights from several systems of knowledge: Western astrology, the I Ching, Kabbalah, and the chakra system.
The Components of the Bodygraph
- Nine Centers: The geometric shapes in the diagram represent different energy domains such as emotion, intellect, communication, or willpower. Defined (colored) centers indicate constant energies; open (white) centers are receptive to external influences. The article on the nine Human Design centers provides a detailed overview.
- 36 Channels: Connecting lines between centers. When both gates of a channel are activated, a defined channel is created—a continuous flow of energy.
- 64 Gates: Based on the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching, they represent specific archetypes and energies.
What does the Bodygraph show?
Among other things, the Bodygraph reveals a person’s type, strategy, inner authority, and profile. There are no better or worse Bodygraphs—every configuration has its own strengths and areas for growth. Human Design views the Bodygraph not as destiny, but as an invitation to self-knowledge. You can learn more about strategy and authority as practical tools in our article on strategy and authority.
Where can I get my bodygraph?
There are various free online services where you can enter your date of birth, exact time and place of birth. The exact time is important as planets move in an hourly rhythm and can strongly influence the body graph.
Is the bodygraph different from a horoscope?
Yes, clearly. A horoscope is based on the positions of the planets in zodiac signs and houses. The bodygraph translates planetary positions into I-Ging hexagrams and assigns them to specific gates. In addition, two calculation times are included: the moment of birth and a time around 88 degrees before birth (prenatal imprinting).
