Ego authority
Ego authority in Human Design is a rare inner decision-making authority based on the defined heart center (ego). It applies exclusively to certain manifestors and projectors where the heart center is directly connected to the G-center or throat center. Decisions are made here by what the heart really wants - beyond obligations and external pressure.
What is the Ego Authority?
Ego Authority is one of the rarer authorities in Human Design and is based on a defined Heart Center (also called the Will or Ego Center) that is directly connected to the G Center or Throat Center—without passing through the Solar Plexus or Sacral Center.
Who has Ego Authority?
This authority is found in certain Manifestors and Projectors. In Manifestors, it is called Ego-Manifested Authority; in Projectors, Ego-Projected Authority. What they have in common is that the Heart Center is the decisive inner voice.
What does this mean in practice?
People with ego authority should pay attention to what they truly want—not what they should or must do. The key often lies in spontaneous statements: What does your heart say when you speak without thinking? Phrases like “I want this” or “That’s not my thing” are direct expressions of ego authority. It is important to give yourself permission to clearly express your desires without immediately qualifying them. The Heart Center is closely linked to willpower and promises—people with Ego Authority should only make commitments when they can truly stand behind them. You can find more about the connections between centers and decision-making in the article on the nine Human Design Centers.
Doesn't ego-authority sound selfish?
The term sounds more provocative than it is meant to be. In human design, 'ego' does not mean arrogance, but the principle of will and heart - the ability to authentically stand up for oneself. Those who live in harmony with ego authority make decisions from a place of genuine conviction, which is healthier and more honest for everyone involved in the long term.
