Sacred authority

In Human Design, the sacral authority is the inner decision-making authority for generators and manifesting generators without a defined solar plexus center. It is based on the immediate bodily reactions of the sacral center - a yes-no signal that expresses itself as a gut feeling or sound. This authority is the second most common after emotional authority.

What is sacral authority?

Sacral authority applies to Generators and Manifesting Generators with a defined sacral center and an open solar plexus center. The sacral center is the most powerful energy center in the Bodygraph and generates a vibrant, reactive life energy.

Recognizing the Sacral Signal

Unlike emotional authority, the sacral response is immediate and physically palpable. It often manifests as:

This reaction does not originate in the mind, but in the body. That is why it is important to ask sacral questions as closed yes-or-no questions. Open-ended questions like “What should I do?” overwhelm the sacral center.

Overcoming Conditioning

Many people with sacral authority have learned to ignore these signals—whether through upbringing, social expectations, or the desire not to disappoint others. Human Design invites us to rediscover this voice of the body step by step. Those who regularly act against their sacral signals tend toward exhaustion and the feeling of being in the wrong place. What if I don't feel a clear sacral signal?

This is common, especially at the beginning. The sacral center reacts best spontaneously and in the moment - without too much thought. Over time and by paying attention to body signals, the signal becomes clearer. Some people practise by asking themselves small yes-no questions every day.

Can generators with emotional authority also make sacred decisions?

No. Whoever has a defined solar plexus center has emotional authority - regardless of whether the sacral center is also defined. In this case, the solar plexus center overrules the sacral center as a decision-making authority.
