Strategy and authority in human design

Strategy and authority are the most practical tools in human design. They show you how to make the right decisions for your life.

Strategy and authority in human design

If there are two concepts in Human Design that can instantly transform your daily life, they are Strategy and Authority. While your Type describes the kind of energy you possess, Strategy and Authority show you how to use that energy effectively—especially when it comes to making decisions.

The Strategy – Your Way of Interacting with the World

Each of the five types has its own strategy that describes how it best gets into the flow of life:

Generator & Manifesting Generator → Responding
Don’t initiate things yourself; instead, wait until life offers something you can respond to. Your sacral center gives you a clear yes (energy rises) or no (energy falls).

Manifestor → Inform
Before you act: Inform the people around you. Not to ask for permission, but to dissolve resistance and move forward together.

Projector → Wait for an invitation
Your wisdom is best received when you are asked for it. For major life decisions, wait for a genuine invitation and share your knowledge where it is desired.

Reflector → Wait
for a lunar cycle Take 29 days for important decisions. During this time, the moon passes through all 64 gates, giving you the opportunity to view the question from every perspective.

Authority – Your Inner Decision-Making Compass

Authority shows you which bodily signals you should rely on when making decisions. It is structured hierarchically—the first defined authority, from top to bottom in your chart, is your personal one:

Emotional Authority (Solar Plexus defined)
Don’t make a decision when you’re emotionally high or low. Wait until the wave subsides and you’re in a neutral state. “Sleeping on it” is literally the best strategy here.

Sacral Authority (Sacral defined, Solar Plexus open)
Your gut feeling gives you immediate, clear answers—an “Uh-huh” (Yes) or “Uh-uh” (No). Practice asking yourself yes/no questions and noticing the physical reaction.

Spleen Authority (Spleen defined, Sacral and Solar Plexus open)
Your intuition speaks softly and only once. It manifests as a spontaneous physical sensation—a tingling, goosebumps, an inexplicable knowing. Learn to trust these subtle signals.

Ego Authority (Heart defined, connected to the throat)
Your heart knows what it wants. Pay attention to what you truly want (not what you should do) and which promises you are willing to keep.

Self-Projected Authority (G-Center defined, connected to the throat)
Talk about your decisions—in speaking, you hear your own truth. Pay attention to the words that come out of you spontaneously.

Mental Authority (none of the centers defined) There is no
physical signal available here. Talk things over with people you trust and listen to what you discover as you speak.

Lunar Authority (Reflectors)
The lunar cycle is your decision-making framework. Observe how your perspective changes over 29 days.

Head out of the decision Perhaps the most important insight in human design is that the mind is a brilliant tool for analyzing and reflecting - but not a reliable decision-maker. No matter what authority you have, it never resides in your head. Your task is to learn to hear the voice of your body again.
